I was looking at Liam Gallagher album sales this morning and realized what a raging success he has been over the past year. For many people, his voice is gone and he was useless to begin with but at the same time, you’ve got to admire his tenacity.
But you know what’s even more interesting? His relationship with Noel!
I guess you can put it down to sibling rivalry. After all, by their own admission, the Gallagher brothers have had what can only be seen as a hate-hate relationship!
As you may know, Liam Gallagher’s album sales are through the roof. His debut album went straight to number one this year with “As You Were” also becoming the highest selling vinyl for more than 20 years.
Later that same year, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds also topped the charts with “Who Built the Moon?” but what else to the statistics say? More on that in a minute.
Sibling-Rivalry Between Liam and Noel Gallagher
In case you need reminding, Noel “quit” for the first time back in 1994 when he left Oasis’ very first tour of America. Meanwhile, Morning Glory was already the best selling UK album and one quarter of the population of England were scrambling over tickets for their gig at Knebworth.
Six years later, Noel quit another tour after a blazing row with Liam and it would seem that this argument was the first “step too far”. However, it wasn’t until 2009 when Noel quit Oasis for good and ever since, the brothers have been confined to exchanging barbs on Twitter and public appearances.

Liam Gallagher Album Sales Versus Noel Gallagher
Anyway, Oasis are no more and the two brothers are now battling it out in the charts. But what do the numbers say about their sibling-rivalry? Let’s take a look…
Liam Gallagher Album Sales
With 102,660 sales, Liam Gallagher’s debut was a record-breaking album and only Ed Sheeran managed to sell more records in the first week than “As You Were”.
Interestingly, this was also more than double 56,000 sales that Definitely Maybe made in it’s opening week back in 1994.

About Beady Eye. Liam Gallagher also starred in Beady Eye, a “spin off” from Oasis with other bandmates, Gem and Andy. For many people, Beady Eye was a flop but as it turns out, they had two top 3 albums which is impressive by any standards…

On the other hand, “Who Built the Moon” went straight to number one last year with 78,000 sales in the opening week. This was Noel’s third solo album in a row to reach number one, and if you include Oasis’ albums, his tenth number one studio album!

Long Live the Gallagher’s Sibling-Rivalry
In the end, it looks as though Noel’s superior song writing skills are still keeping him slightly ahead of his brother on the Macro. However, I get the feeling that Liam’s not going to let it be and long may their sibling-rivalry continue!
